Digg URL Hack

Ok, so, I have to preface this by saying I love all the Betaworks folks, and many props to @kortina for a great service.  But, I was very impressed by the URL hack in the Digg URL shortening tool when I saw it today. Want to shorten a URL? Just go up to the location bar and type “http://digg.com/” in front of your current URL, and it will instantly redirect to a shortened version on the spot.  No need to visit another domain.  No plugin/extension required.  It’s lame how Digg wraps the page with their toolbar, and if it gets popular it will reek havoc with third-party tracking service metrics.  But, the URL hack to instantly create a shortened version of the URL is really cool.

That said, I still think URL shorteners are evil. A necessary evil so long as we’re all communicating in 140 characters.
