Product Love

When Charles Forman started OMGPOP (originally ImInLikeWithYou), his standard for product quality was as follows: “I mowed lawns to get my first Nintendo system, so my measure of success was to create a product a kid would want to mow a shitload of lawns in order to get.” (Inc. interview)

I was recently reminded of this quote after reading that LEGO conjured up a discontinued Emerald Night Train set for a boy that saved up for two years to buy the set, only to be disappointed by its recent lack of availability. My one line description doesn’t do it justice, read more here. (hat tip HN)

I’m impressed by companies (here, LEGO and Nintendo, but also others) that create such beloved products, so beloved that people will move heaven and earth to own. It’s a Big Hairy Audacious Goal, and it’s well-worth rising to the challenge.
